The what? The BBC iPlayer, offering free access to most programmes from the last week. At least, that's the theory. How does it work out in practice?

Good Idea: Using Flash for streaming video, sparing us long P2P downloads just to watch the latest episode of Have I Got News For You.
Bad Idea: One of the worst demos of streaming I've ever seen. Watching five programmes over the weekend, four suddenly stopped a couple of minutes in and refused to continue.
Good Idea: No more having to install that irritating Kontiki nonsense on my precious PC, and thus no worries about my connection uploading data because I forgot to tick a box somewhere.
Bad Idea: Seriously, when pirates get better resolution video than legitimate users, something's gone badly, badly wrong. Even factoring in that it's streaming, it's very, very poor - especially if you click the Full Screen button
Good Idea: At least Flash is due for an upgrade reasonably soon that promises better quality video. If the Beeb makes use of it, anyway.
Bad Idea: BBC Listen Again service (Sorry, iPlayer Radio) still lumbered with RealAudio. Even if it is the only reason any of us in the office still have that multimedia throwback installed, it'd be good to see it just switch to Flash.
Good Idea: The basic concept, even with its flaws.
Bad Idea: Mentioning this to Mac or Linux users. Trust me on this one.
